The assignment prompt was to create a magazine based on one of the following categories: lifestyle, travel, art, or technology. I chose to develop Talk, a lifestyle magazine inspired by the idea of “gossip” that sparks conversation and gets people talking. Talk focuses on topics such as fashion, celebrity news, and entertainment.
One of the most challenging aspects of creating this magazine was developing the title treatments. I also struggled with making the running text more engaging and ensuring it carried the spreads, rather than relying on the images to do so.
Here’s how I improved my spread:
Created a stronger, more effective title treatment
Used paragraph styles to clearly differentiate categories
Applied color to make the pull-out quote stand out
Reduced the image size and moved away from a simple, square layout
